The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) is an eleven member tripartite body. Each member is appointed by the Governor-General. Members other than the Chairman and Comcare’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) may appoint a deputy, subject to the Minister’s approval. A member, other than Comcare’s CEO, holds office on a part-time basis for a term, not longer than three years, specified in the instrument of appointment. Members are eligible for reappointment.
The SRCC has the following members:
- Chairperson Mr Peter Henneken
- the CEO of Comcare Mr Paul O'Connor
- two people nominated by the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) (Ms Sue Powell, Industrial Officer, Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) and Mr Burt Blackburne, Divisional Assistant Secretary, Communications Electrical Plumbing Union (CEPU))
- a person who represents the licensees (Mr Graham Rawstron, formerly, Head of Personnel, Reserve Bank of Australia)
- a person who represents the Commonwealth and Commonwealth authorities (Ms Michelle Baxter, Group Manager, Safety and Entitlements Group, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations)
- a person who represents the interests of members and former members of the Defence Force (Lt Gen David Hurley AO DSC, Vice Chief of the Defence Force)
- a person who represents the interests of the Australian Capital Territory public sector employers (vacant)
- two persons with qualifications or experience relevant to the SRCC's functions, or the exercise of its powers (Mr Steve Somogyi and Professor Niki Ellis)
- a person who represents Safe Work Australia (Mr Rex Hoy, CEO of Safe Work Australia)
Comcare must give the SRCC such secretarial and other assistance, and make available to it the services of such members of Comcare's staff and such other resources, as the SRCC reasonably requires from time to time for the proper performance of its functions or exercise of its powers.
