Are you leading the way in workplace health and safety?

The search is on for employers and individuals operating within the Commonwealth occupational health and safety (OHS) and/or workers’ compensation jurisdiction, who have implemented innovative practices and solutions to create safer workplaces.

The 9th annual Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) Awards will be held in Canberra on Thursday 24 September 2009.

The SRCC introduced its annual Safety Awards in 2001 to further the objective of achieving continuous improvement in injury prevention.

“These awards are an opportunity for individuals and organisations to showcase the systems and initiatives being used to ensure safer workplaces for all employees”, said Mr Les Taylor, SRCC Chairman.

The 2009 SRCC Safety Awards program will comprise five categories:

Category 1:  Leadership Award for Injury or Disease Prevention and Management

Category 2:  Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System

Category 3:  Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue

Category 4:  Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety

Two awards will be given under the following sub-categories:

(a) an employee who does not have responsibility for OHS as part of their duties (for example a Health and Safety Representative)

(b) an outstanding contribution by a person with responsibility for OHS as part of their duties

Category 5: Rehabilitation and Return to Work Award

Nominations for the 2009 SRCC Safety Awards are now open and will close on Thursday 21 May 2009. Further details on the awards can be found at www.srcc.gov.au
