A new program at Centrelink designed to keep workers healthy at work has been recognised as a model for other employers at the tenth annual National Safety Awards at Parliament House in Canberra last night.
Awarded by the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC), the awards recognise and reward excellence in work health and safety, rehabilitation and return-to-work achieved by employers and employees within the Comcare scheme.
The Centrelink - Area Pacific Central program called LivWell - Life Works won Best Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program, a category which recognises programs that aim to help employees stay healthy and therefore more resilient and conscious of avoiding injury.
Through a holistic view of wellbeing, the LivWell – LifeWorks program focuses on prevention and promotion of an individual’s health, work/life balance and workplace wellbeing activities.
Mr Peter Henneken, SRCC Chairperson, said the entries across several award categories confirmed that organisations in the Comcare scheme were developing new and innovative ways to improve worker health and safety.
"We are entering a period where work health and safety laws will become harmonised and it is the innovation and spirit of the organisations and individuals on display in these awards that will lead to real improvements across workplaces across the country."
The winners in each of the categories are:
Category 1: Best Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program
Category 2: Leadership Award for Injury or Disease Prevention and Management
Category 3: Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System
Category 4: Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue
