Outstanding work health and safety initiatives have been recognised at the 6th annual Safe Work Australia (SWA) Awards, in Canberra.
The SWA Awards, presented at a ceremony at Parliament House last night, are the national work health and safety awards in Australia. They acknowledge excellence in work health and safety by individuals, employees, managers and organisations across the private and public sectors.
Finalists in the SWA Awards were the 2010 winners of their respective categories in their State, Territory, Seacare and Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) work health and safety awards.
Two winners from the 2010 SRCC Safety Awards were recognised at these awards.
CSIRO Livestock Industries won an award for their Liquid Nitrogen—Dewar Filling Station initiative and Visionstream received a highly commended for their Health and Safety Management System.
Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission Chair, Peter Henneken, said he was impressed at the high standard of the entries this year and commended all entrants.
“It can be very easy to take safety at work for granted but the number of entries for these awards demonstrates that many people in the workplace take a keen interest in safety at work”, he said.
