Five leading Australian organisations have been recognised for their commitment to safer workplaces at the annual Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) National Safety Awards in Canberra.
The awards recognised the development of equipment and processes that contribute to safer workplaces as well as the implementation of programs and educational activities that increase knowledge and skills in managing day-to-day hazards.
Winners for each major organisation category were: the Department of Health and Aging, John Holland Group, Department of Defence an SingTel Optus. An individual award was presented to Captain Sharryn Batt from the Department of Defence.
The SRCC announced the winners at its annual National Safety Awards presentation, at The Great Hall, Parliament House. Organisations under the Comcare health and safety jurisdiction including all Commonwealth public service agencies and private sector licensees were eligible for the awards.
“The winners demonstrated continued commitment to ensuring workplaces under the Comcare scheme have the highest safety standards, the fewest work-related injuries and the most effective rehabilitation of injured employees,” said SRCC Chairman, Mr Les Taylor.
