Self insurance licence: Chubb Security Services Limited

The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (the Commission) granted a licence to self-insure under the Commonwealth’s workers’ compensation scheme to Chubb Security Services Limited on 25 June 2007.

The licence will commence on 1 July 2007. The licence was granted under Part VIII of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (the SRC Act) and ensures that Chubb Security Services Limited employees will be covered by the Comcare workers’ compensation and occupational health and safety scheme.

In reaching its decision to grant the licence, the Commission was satisfied that Chubb Security Services Limited met the requirements of the legislation in respect of the management of workers’ compensation claims. Importantly, the company met the high standards set by the Commission for the rehabilitation and occupational health and safety of its employees.

The Commission also extended the self-insurance licences of CSL Limited, Linfox Armaguard Pty Ltd, Linfox Australia Pty Ltd, Optus Administration Pty Ltd, the Reserve Bank of Australia, and Visionstream Pty Ltd until 30 June 2011. All of these organisations had demonstrated they continued to meet the Commission’s financial, rehabilitation, compensation and safety standards.

There are now 18 licenced self-insurers under the SRC Act.
