National safety awards finalists announced

The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) today announced the finalists in its annual Safety Awards.

The Awards are designed to reward excellence in workplace health and safety, rehabilitation and return to work achieved by individuals, companies and agencies operating within the Commonwealth occupational health and safety (OHS) and workers’ compensation jurisdiction.

A record number of entries were received from private and public sector organisations across the country, with entries increasing by 7% compared to the previous year.

Mr Les Taylor, SRCC Chairman, said the volume of entries demonstrates a continued commitment to ensuring workplaces in the Comcare scheme have the highest safety standards, the fewest work-related injuries and the most effective rehabilitation of injured employees.

‘We are delighted with the overall high quality entries received across the categories as well as the diversity of products and systems represented.’

Now in their eighth year, the Awards recognise innovation and acknowledge initiatives from those who are leading the way in workplace health and safety, return to work and rehabilitation.

Winners will be announced at the presentation event at the National Ballroom, Hotel Realm, Canberra on Thursday 23 October 2008.
