Scheme performance

The performance of the scheme has improved since 2004–05 over a range of measures, with both premium payers and licensees contributing to these improvements.

In particular, the incidence of non-commuting claims that reached one week or more lost time decreased by 37 per cent for premium payers and 28 per cent for licensees over the period 2004–05 to 2008–09.

The amendments to the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act) implemented on 13 April 2007 have impacted on the incidence of claims from that date. These amendments removed workers’ compensation coverage for non-work related journeys and recess breaks and strengthened the required relationship with work for a disease claim to be compensable. To enable comparison of performance since 2007–08 with earlier years, commuting claims have been reported separately for selected performance indicators.
