The standard for a self-insured licensee prevention management system is the Australian Standard AS/NZS ISO 45001:2018 (ISO45001). It replaced the National Audit Tool from 1 July 2026. Further information is in the Licence Compliance and Performance Model. 

Before a self-insurance licence is granted

Licence applicants must provide one of the following through the licence application process:

  • evidence of ISO45001 certification; or
  • an audit report that demonstrates alignment with ISO45001 and meets the Commission’s requirements. 

After a self-insurance licence is granted

  • Licensees must demonstrate annually that they maintain a prevention management system certified, or aligned to, ISO45001.
